Some of Elk Grove's smallest residents will get a chance this week to play on some of the city's biggest tools.
The city will host Big Truck Day Tuesday, a free event where kids can ogle construction equipment, garbage trucks, buses and more.
The event marks Public Works Week, and is intended to teach "about the equipment and skills required to maintain a city," according to a flier.
Big Truck Day at City Hall will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the parking lot of city hall, 8401 Laguna Palms Way.

Big Truck Day Rolls into Elk Grove Tomorrow! Â
Big trucks are a big hit with children of all ages. Tomorrow, the City of Elk Grove’s best and biggest trucks will be featured at the popular Big Truck Day at City Hall from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.Â
The free event will feature more than a dozen trucks, large vehicles, buses and construction equipment for kids to look at, sit in, touch and even honk. Representatives from the Franklin Community Library will offer big truck-themed story times at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Â
The Elk Grove Library will bring out the bookmobile, allowing families to check out favorite books at the event. Four mobile food trucks will offer kid-friendly cuisine, including pizza, hotdogs and shaved ice. The event is being held during National Public Works Week and is designed to educate children about the role of the City of Elk Grove Public Works Department.Â
