
How's this for a niche market: Open a business that sells only high-end licorice. That's what Phyllis Enos and her husband did after sampling Sweet & Sour USA's products at a county fair.
At $4 a pop, the ropes—imported from Europe—aren't cheap. But they are huge. Laying there all stringy and irregular in their clear display case, they remind us of the Hawaiian pahoehoe lava we saw on a PBS special as a kid.
The candy comes in both smooth-textured sweet and grainy sour varieties, and flavors include peach, cola and blue raspberry.

Enos couldn't snag a spot at last weekend's Western Festival, but is camping out in Old Town's Boba Tea & Gifts every weekday from 12:00 to 7:00 p.m., in hopes that high-school kids and other passers-by will be tempted by her wares. If you stop by, let us know which flavor you liked best.
