Local Historian to Give Lecture on Elk Grove's Past

Elizabeth Pinkerton will share tidbits from her book History Happened Here at an Assistance League of Sacramento event May 14.

Former teacher Elizabeth Pinkerton has for years painstakingly documented Elk Grove's history. Next month, Elk Grove's unofficial historian will share tidbits from her research—including stories of the Miwok Indians and the Tule Elk, for which the area was named—at the Assistance League of Sacramento's First Annual Authors' Day.

Pinkerton's May 14 presentation, based on her book History Happened Here: The Story of Elk Grove, will be one of nine by Sacramento-area writers. Other authors will discuss immigration policy and the history of Sacramento's Chinatown.

Keynote speaker Marjorie Hart will read from her bestselling memoir about working as one of the first female pages at famed jeweler Tiffany & Co. during World War II.
