Sacramento County Clerk Prepares for Flood of Same-Sex Marriages

Make an appointment for marriage applications to avoid long lines, the county clerk suggests.

Following Wednesday's news that the U.S. Supreme Court found the same-sex marriage ban to be unconstitutional, counties across the state, including Sacramento County, are preparing for an increased number of same-sex couples planning to say "I do."

“Once the stay is lifted, we are prepared to handle an increased volume of marriage applications,” said Sacramento County Clerk Recorder Craig Kramer, in a press release. “We ask that couples please make appointments to avoid long lines and displacing those that made appointments earlier."

Once the office is able, couples may apply for marriage licenses immediately, but should anticipate possible delays. If time permits, couples can get married that day at the Clerk Recorder's office, according to the release.

Marriage licenses are issued in Downtown Sacramento, 600 8th St. or the East Area Service Center at 5229-B Hazel Ave. in Fair Oaks.
