A 58-year-old man suffered serious injuries when he darted across an Encinitas street mid-block and was struck by a Lexus sedan, sheriff's officials said.

Investigators suspected the pedestrian had been drinking alcohol prior to the crash in the 1200 block of North Coast Highway 101 near W. Jason Street shortly before 8 p.m. Thursday, according to Anthony O'Boyle of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. He was also wearing dark colored clothing, O'Boyle said.

Sheriff's officials did not believe the 57-year-old woman behind the wheel of the northbound Lexus had been speeding or was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash, O'Boyle said.
