Don’t Miss These Earth Day Festivities in Tarzana Saturday
The 2nd Annual Earth Day Celebration features a host of fun activities for kids, plus a poster competition that carries a Best in Show prize.
The Tarzana Neighborhood Council and the Woodland Hills-Tarzana Chamber of Commerce will host their 2nd Annual Earth Day Celebration Saturday at the Tarzana Community & Cultural Center, 19130 Ventura Blvd. (at Vanalden Avenue) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
This year’s Earth Day theme, “How Does Our Garden Grow?” is meant to be inclusive of not just our backyard gardens or the ones in our community but of “our collective garden that is the planet,” said event chair Marina McLeod.
The celebrations will kick off with a free 30-minute Zumba class led by an instructor for “anybody who wants to participate,” McLeod said.

At the same time a pancake breakfast—also free of cost—will be served, followed by free tastings from local restaurants from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.
The highlight of the day will be the judging of an Earth Day poster competition featuring the work of more than 400 students from Tarzana schools.

A group of local artists will judge the best posters from each grade level of participating schools, and the school with the most winning entries will be awarded a $250 arts supplies grant from the Tarzana Property Owners Association, McLeod said.
The best individual piece of artwork overall will also win a prize but “we don’t have that defined yet,” McLeod said.
Yet other events include a rock climbing wall, an inflatable obstacle course and a show of exotic and endangered animals. What’s more, the West Valley Nursery, across the street from the Tarzana Community & Cultural Center, will present children with small takeaway seedling pots.
