Rocio's Mole de los Dioses Opens Location in Tarzana

The new restaurant is at 19321 Ventura Blvd.

Rocio's Mole de los Dioses, which has two other locations in the Los Angeles area, opened the doors last week on a new location in Tarzana.

The Mexican restaurant's Sun Valley location is well-known and well-reviewed, having been listed on Zagat.com's LA's Ultimate Mexican Food Guide: 28 Must-Have Dishes and LA Weekly's 5 Essential Mexican Restaurants in Los Angeles.

The new Tarzana location is at 19321 Ventura Blvd. Translated as Mole of the Gods, Rocio's Mole de los Dioses specializes in—you guessed it—moles.

"We believe in keeping traditions alive. We focus on moles because it's one of the more traditional dishes that has not been Americanized. It has not been exposed as it should be," co-owner Alonso Arelleno told the LA Weekly.

According to the LA Weekly:

The menu at the Tarzana location is mostly the same as the other locations, with a few additions such as frijoles de la olla. The beans are served with a platter of chopped serrano and habanero chiles and onions on the side.

Arelleno told Squid Ink that the restaurant works closely with the community, such as dispplaying artwork by local artist Manuel Figueroa, donating to the Cal State University Northridge folklorico dance troupe and purchasing some ingredients from a community garden in Pacoima.
