Deadline Today: Senior Symposium on Healthy Living Offers Screenings, Seminars

Baby Boomers 55 years old or more are encouraged to attend the April 20 event.

Monday is the deadline to register for the 2013 Senior Symposium, an annual event—entirely free of cost—focused on encouraging healthy living among people 55 years old or more.

This is the fifth year the Senior Symposium will be held for Baby Boomers and senior citizens. The event is scheduled on Saturday, April 20, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the ONEgeneration Senior Enrichment Center, 18255 Victory Blvd. in Reseda.

Reservations are limited to the first 500 callers. At last count, nearly 300 people had registered for the event, according to Encino Neighborhood Council President Glenn Bailey. Some 30 seniors who had registered live in Encino, Bailey said, adding that “it’s safe to say there are registrations from most of the communities in the West Valley, including Granada Hills, Tarzana, Canoga Park and West Valley.”

The symposium will feature guest speakers and workshops on health ageing. Health screenings will also be available and some 70 vendors will be on hand. A continental breakfast and lunch will be served—free of cost—but reservations are required for it.

Besides the Encino Neighborhood Council and the Tarzana Neighborhood Council, the event is being co-sponsored by councils in six other neighborhoods: Canoga Park, Lake Balboa, Northridge South, Reseda, Winnetka, and Woodland Hills Warner Center.
