'Underworld Awakening' Tops Weekend's Box Office [VIDEO]

The film took $25.3 million on its opening weekend.

A 3-D fright flick was tops at the weekend box office, according to final figures released Monday. Underworld Awakening opened with a $25.3 million domestic take from Friday to Sunday, Hollywood.Com Box-Office reported.

The Tuskegee Airmen adventure Red Tails debuted in second place, grossing $18.7 million, followed by Contraband ($12 million), Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close ($10.7 million) and Beauty and the Beast 3D ($8.7 million).

Rounding out the top 10 were the debut of Haywire ($8.4 million), Joyful Noise ($5.9 million), Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol ($5.5 million), Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows ($4.5 million) and The Iron Lady ($3.6 million).

The dozen top-grossing movies generated a combined $110.4 million, up 24.31 percent from the $88.8 million grossed by the 12 top movies during the same period a year ago.
