Backed by new sales tax revenue and a consulting study, he aims to streamline processes for residents, businesses, and developers while improving the city’s long-troubled reputation for customer service.

2. Escondido officials warn against illegal fireworks as New Year's Eve approaches (kpbs.org) — Escondido officials are stepping up enforcement against illegal fireworks this New Year’s Eve, warning residents that all consumer fireworks are banned countywide and urging reports to the police nonemergency line. Partnering with the Escondido Fire Safe Council, the city is sharing videos, mapping hotspots in East Escondido, and highlighting how fireworks disturb pets, veterans with PTSD, and neighbors throughout the city.

3. Council votes to support tribe in acquiring San Pasqual state park (times-advocate.com) — Escondido’s City Council has unanimously backed the San Pasqual Band of Mission Indians’ bid to take ownership of the nearby San Pasqual Battlefield State Historic Park, about eight miles from town. The city will send a support letter to San Diego’s mayor as the tribe pursues state and city land transfers to restore, maintain, and culturally revitalize this historic 50‑acre site.

4. Who's News: 1/2/26 (thecoastnews.com) — Escondido readers can celebrate two locals in the spotlight: student Celeste Galvan made the fall dean’s list at Doane University, and photographer Paige Rudolph won a national wildlife photo contest for an image taken at her Sage Hill Ranch Gardens farm.
