Celebrate Fourth of July in Foster City

Community members are invited to celebrate the nation's independence this Fourth of July in Foster City.

8:00 a.m. – 9:45 p.m.

Join the City of Foster City, the Parks and Recreation Department and the Foster City Lions Club for a spectacular Fourth of July Celebration at Leo Ryan Park. We have an exciting day planned with a family and dog parade, family games, and live music! Be sure to take a walk through the park where you can purchase food, visit booths of local artists, and check out the children’s rides.

• Fireworks
  
  -The fabulous firework display over the Lagoon is a perfect end to a wonderful day of family fun and tradition in Leo Ryan Park. The fireworks, provided by Pyro Spectaculars begin at 9:30 sharp so don’t be late. 
  
  -The firing line site for the July 4th Pyrotechnic Show is located at the West end of Leo Ryan Park. The firing line site can be a dangerous area and will be fenced off. We request your cooperation in keeping clear of the firing line and in not crossing the fenced area.
  
  -The community is encouraged to take advantage of the entire Leo Ryan Park, as well as the vacant lot across from the Recreation Center, for fireworks viewing. The synthetic turf field at Catamaran Park will be closed, however the boardwalk and surrounding grass areas will be open making them available for fireworks seating as well.
  
  -The possession, use and sale of fireworks of all types are illegal and prohibited in Foster City. Fireworks are subject to confiscation and violators may receive misdemeanor citations and subsequent prosecution. Fireworks, in spite of their patriotic association, cause injuries and fires. Please leave the pyrotechnics to the experts and do your part to keep July 4th free of fire and injury.
  
  
• Parking
  
  -This event historically turns out a large crowd for the full day of activities and events. The community is encouraged to walk, bike, and car pool to the Fourth of July Celebration.
  
  -$10 Parking at Parkside Tower Parking Garage: The Foster City Lions Club will be collecting $10 per car upon entry. One hundred percent of parking proceeds will go to offset the 4th of July Celebration expenses. We appreciate your support to make this free community event possible each year. Parkside Tower Parking Garage is located on the corner of E. Hillsdale Blvd. and Shell Blvd. Parking is also available at the City Hall parking lot.
  
  -Handicap parking will be located in the Library Community Center lot.
  
  -Parking will NOT be available in the dirt lot.
  
  -There is no event parking in The Marketplace (Safeway/CVS) parking lot, and a 1-hour time limit for shoppers will be enforced. Prohibited parking in red zones will also be strictly enforced.
  
  
• Street Closures
  
  -As usual, Shell Blvd. will be closed to through traffic between E. Hillsdale Blvd. and Bounty from 7am until 11pm on July 4th. E. Hillsdale Blvd will be closed between Edgewater and Foster City Blvd. from 6pm and 11pm. Metro Center Blvd. will be open between Edgewater and Foster City Blvd.

• Alcohol Policy
  
  -Alcohol consumption will be allowed in Leo Ryan Park until 5:00pm. After 4:30pm, the Lions Club beer sales will end. Throughout the day, and especially after 5:00pm, law enforcement efforts will concentrate on minors in possession of alcoholic beverages and on persons whose behavior is disruptive or dangerous to others.
  
  
• BBQ Policy
  
  -Both charcoal and propane barbeques are permitted in Leo Ryan Park. Ashes and expired coals must be disposed of in the designated coal receptacle located East of the Amphitheater and South of the meadow stage. Coal can also be transported out of the park. Under no circumstances can ash or coals be dumped/buried in the park. Empty propane containers may not be disposed of in the park.
  
  
• Boating Info 
  
  -The City of Foster City does not rent boats or any type of floatation devices. Electric battery powered, wind powered or person powered boats are permitted in the Foster City Waterways for the purpose of viewing the fireworks. Gas powered boats are not permitted. All boats or floatation vessels are required to have lights. All California State safe boating laws should be followed and will be enforced. For safety reasons, all vessels must stay outside of the firing line. This “off limits” space will be marked with a highly visible buoy system.
  
  -During the fireworks display, the waterway is often crowded and dark, increasing the potential for boating accidents. A City water rescue boat will be on the lagoon in the evening hours to enforce the fireworks display safety zone and to provide rescue services.
  
  
• Public Safety 
  
  -For first aid, lost children check-in, police assistance or to report an emergency, please notify the closest police officer or stop by the Amphitheater area to locate city staff. 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR 2013

• Catamaran Park- The synthetic turf field at Catamaran Park will be closed, however the boardwalk and surrounding grass areas will be open making them available for fireworks seating as well.

• SamTrans Fireworks Shuttle Service – this free service has been provided in the past for the fireworks, but due to regulatory changes WILL NOT be available this year. NO shuttle service is available to and from the event. Please plan accordingly.
