Do you want to learn English or study for the citizenship exam? San Mateo County Libraries has free online and in-person classes and resources to help!

Online ESL Class (Learn English)
Fridays from 7:00 – 8:30 PM
Learn English with a certified instructor in a Zoom classroom.

Online ESL Class for Beginners (Learn English)
Thursdays from 5:00 – 6:30 PM
This class is specifically for Spanish-speakers who are just starting to learn English. 

In-Person English Conversation Clubs (Learn English)
Schedule varies by branch. Click here to see current in-person offerings.
Practice speaking English in a small group with fluent English speakers and other learners. All levels welcome!

In-Person LEAMOS Learning Circle (for native Spanish-speakers)
North Fair Oaks Branch: Mondays from 6:00 - 7:30 PM
Learn to read and write in Spanish with a supportive group. This program is for native Spanish-speaking adults who want to learn to read and write in their first language. We also offer Spanish literacy support at other branches, please contact us to sign up. 

Cell-Ed (Learn English & Study Citizenship)
Learn English and citizenship all from your phone. You can call, text or download the app (iOS, opens a new window | Android, opens a new window) to start learning. No WiFi or smartphone required! News for You Online (Learn English)
Read the news and learn English! This newspaper is written in easy English. Learn new vocabulary and complete practice exercises about interesting topics. Use code 690377.

With 100 videos, practice exercises, and quizzes, you will learn everything you need to know to successfully pass the Naturalization Test.

Pronunciator (Learn English)
Learn English based on your interests such as music, sports, or for a career. Instruction is available in 120 native languages.
