3 Beloved Fremont Restaurants Closing
Between them, they have been operating in Fremont for more than 114 years.
FREMONT, CA — Three long-time Fremont restaurants beloved by devoted fans — Dino's Family Restaurant, Munchner Haus Delicatessen (Rita’s German Deli) and Mission Coffee— are closing their doors. Dino's is closing after 46 years, Rita's has been open for more 38 years, and Mission Coffee was in Fremont for 30 years — taking more than 114 years of combined memories and traditions with them.
Lifelong Fremont resident and frequent Patch photo contributor Gregory J. Brown, who moved to Europe earlier this month, told Patch that he thought so much of Dino's and the staff that he stopped by to say goodbye before leaving. That's when he found out about the closure plans, making the goodbyes final instead of see-you-later.
Dino's announced on its Facebook page that Dec. 31 will be its last day. Customers responded with heartfelt remembrances. Tony Baughman said, "I’m saddened to hear you guys are closing down….after 46 years…we’ve been your customer since it opened in 1977…the best in Fremont and the Bay Area…you’ll be missed in a big way by our family."

Gordon John Brown called the restaurant a staple to the Fremont community.
"This breaks my heart!" said Sheryl Arroyo-Glausch, who raved about the Monte Cristo sandwich, then went on to say, "So many other delicious comfort foods are a permanent part of my memories, along with friendly faces who brought them to my table. Thank you for those wonderful times, you will be missed."

A reminder that Dino's is at 36930 Fremont Blvd. if you want to stop by one last time between now and Sunday.
Owners Toula and Bill Sinodino also run Billy Roy’s Burger Co. at 3909 Thornton Avenue in Fremont.
Munchner Haus Delicatessen is closing at the end of the year. The quaint deli is known for its German specialties and imported beer.
The most recent post on a Facebook fan page was from Jimmy Francis last month who posted photos of the restaurant and remembrances. One photo was of a sign that reads, "Closing my business. All is for sale. Coolers, tables, chairs, shelves, pictures & more. — Rita."
Francis wrote that the deli serves "the best bratwurst sandwich combo plate with German potato salad you’ll ever have in your life." He purchased the wooden cat statue "that has sat on the counter as long as I have been going there" as a momento "that I’ll cherish the rest of my life."
A major conversation about Rita’s is taking place on the Fremont Reddit. User zigois wrote, "Just grabbed a pastrami sandwich there today, they are closing at the end of the year. Go grab y’all some goodies before they’re gone!"
Gregory wrote, "I had many long sit-down conversations with this deli's owner, Rita, after nearly 17 years of visiting we never actually became friends, but strangers passing the time away. Rita, your family back home will be happy to see you again after many years of separation. Take care."
Other posters praised the food but lamented parking issues and spotty hours of operation.
Munchner Haus Delicatessen is at 39212 Fremont Blvd.
Finally, Mission Coffee Roasting Company closed its doors on Dec. 23, but a message on their website offers hope to devotees that it will reopen elsewhere. A message signed by Gael Stewart reads, "While the future of Mission Coffee Roasting Company remains uncertain, the current chapter of this wonderful gathering spot is coming to an end. Saturday, Dec. 23rd, will be our last day of operations for the foreseeable future." Mission Coffee is exploring options for the future. The message closes with "Thank you for 30 glorious years in Fremont, including the last 23 years in Mission San Jose. We have loved every minute of it."
If Mission Coffee reopens, it will make an announcement on the website and Facebook page.
