Update: Alvarado Boulevard Reopened, Power Restored After Car Hits Pole

Power was knocked out after car crash in Fremont, Union City area near Alvarado Boulevard.

Alvarado Boulevard was reopened and power was restored to almost all customers in the Fremont and Union City area early Sunday evening.

The thoroughfare was opened again shortly before 5 p.m. Sunday, according to police.

Only three of the more than 3,000 customers who lost power had their electricity service back, according to Pacific Gas & Electric.

The outage happened after a car crashed into a power pole on Alvarado Boulevard at 1:55 p.m.

The accident sheared off a power pole at Alvarado Boulevard and Lowry Road, causing live wires to come down on the roadway and knocking out power to 3,440 customers, said PG&E spokesman J.D. Guidi.

PG&E had restored power to 1,880 customers shortly before 4 p.m.

Emergency responders blocked Alvarado Boulevard after the crash while at least one occupant in the vehicle was rescued, according to Fremont police.
