📰 News we're reading

1. Fremont Student Wins National Literary Award (patch.com) — Fremont readers can celebrate Irvington High School senior Anika Mangla, who has been named a 2026 YoungArts winner for her powerful poetry exploring identity, culture, and social issues. The Fremont-based writer, also Alameda County Youth Poet Laureate and an international slam champion, will release her book "embers & flames" in early January 2026, extending her impact from local stages to a national audience.

2. CalTrout removes last fish barrier on Alameda Creek (tricityvoice.com) — Work to remove the last fish barrier on Alameda Creek is already helping salmon reach habitat upstream, and it builds directly on recent fish ladder projects at Fremont’s inflatable dams. With Alameda Creek running through Fremont parks and neighborhoods, residents can expect a wilder, more vibrant waterway right alongside popular trails and open spaces. The project also boosts climate resilience for native fish.

3. 25 Incredible Reader Images From 2025: California In Photos (patch.com) — Several of this year’s standout reader photos showcase Fremont’s natural beauty, from dramatic light over Vargas Plateau to bobcats roaming a local backyard and birds at Quarry Lakes. The collection places these familiar Fremont scenes alongside stunning landscapes from across California, offering a reminder of the wild moments happening right in local neighborhoods and parks.

4. From Ford To Tesla, Big Electric Pickups Are A Tough Sell (forbesafrica.com) — Tesla’s Fremont factory will keep building cars even as California regulators move to restrict the company’s sales over what they call misleading Autopilot and Full Self-Driving marketing. The broader piece explains why big electric pickups like Ford’s F-150 Lightning and Tesla’s Cybertruck are struggling, and how automakers are rethinking their EV strategies in California and beyond.
