Armed Man Who Crashes Car Into Fremont House Caught After Police Chase, Attempted Carjacking

By Bay City News Service

A 23-year-old man who allegedly brandished a firearm following a
hit-and-run crash in Fremont was arrested Monday, Fremont police said.

The suspect, identified later as Jovhon Stewart, drove a vehicle
through a fence into the backyard of a residence on Lake Barlee Lane and then
crashed into a house, Fremont police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques said.

Following the collision, Stewart exited the vehicle and fled the
scene into Union City, according to police.

As Stewart attempted to run away from the crash, witnesses
reported that he pointed a handgun at several people, police said.

Union City police then received a report about Stewart attempting
to carjack someone at gunpoint.

Police set up a perimeter and dispatched K-9 units. Police were
able to locate Stewart near the Union City-Fremont border, police said.

Stewart was arrested on suspicion of being a felon in possession
of a loaded firearm, brandishing a firearm, for possession of
methamphetamine, and in connection with the hit-and-run collision, police
said.

He was transported to a hospital before being booked into Santa
Rita Jail, according to police.
