Crime Log: Man Threatens Neighbor With Baseball Bat; Police Respond to Fight at Mojo's

Brief updates on crimes that occurred in Fremont from Sept. 10 to Sept. 16

The following is a summary of significant crime and incidents reported in Fremont between Sept. 10 and Sept. 16 as released by the Fremont Police Department.  

MONDAY, SEPT. 10

Thief Caught Snoozing in Stolen Vehicle

A man was arrested after police caught him sleeping in a stolen vehicle after officers were called around 6:15 a.m. when a passer-by saw a man passed out in the vehicle. Officers who responded learned that the vehicle was stolen and the man inside "was just passed out," police said. The man, David Mandeville, 52, was arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft and possession of a controlled substance and for a parole warrant.

Drunken Driver Caught Speeding at 70 MPH

Police arrested a 32-year-old man on suspicion of drunken driving after he was caught speeding at more than 70 MPH near Stevenson Boulevard and Blacow Avenue around 10:50 p.m.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 11

Man Resists Arrest During Police Pat Down

A 23-year-old Union City man was arrested after police caught a group of men trying to start a fire at the Americana Apartments on the 4400 block of Stevenson Boulevard around 4 a.m. Police said during a search the man became agitated and “turned towards officers in an aggressive manner” then refused to listen when officers told him to sit back down. The man was eventually arrested on suspicion of being drunk in public and resisting arrest.

Man Steals FedEx Boxes From Homes

A 39-year-old man was arrested after a person called officers to report that two men were stealing FedEx boxes from porches of homes in the Ardenwood area.

Man Waves Baseball Bat During Neighbor Dispute

A 40-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of brandishing a weapon after police said he waved a baseball bat at his neighbor during a fight on Hyde Court in the Irvinton area. The man was booked into fremont Jail.

Stolen Vehicle Found, Another Reported Stolen

Police found a vehicle that was reported stolen out of Newark in the Warm Springs area with its car parts scattered in the street, but a green Honda Civic was later reported stolen from Cedar Apartments. Its license plate number is 3TIP648.

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 12

Man Tries Selling Stolen Games to Fremont Hub Customers

A 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of criminal threats and trespassing after officers were told that he was trying to sell stolen video games to restaurant customers at the Fremont Hub. Authorities said the man was threatening people who refused to buy the games from him.

Man Hospitalized After Crashing Car into Backyard

A 20-year-old man was hospitalized after crashing through a backyard fence, authorities said. Police said the solo-vehicle accident occurred just before 9:40 p.m. on Grimmer Boulevard near Victoria Avenue, and the driver was partially ejected. Fire officials determined he was in critical condition before he was transferred to a local hospital, police said. Read the full report here.

THURSDAY, SEPT. 13

Man Fights Pair Over Child Visitation

A 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of battery after officers were called to the Cabrillo area to a report of a man fighting with his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend over child visitation problems, police said.

Drunken Man Arrested After Report of Fight

A 51-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being drunk in public after police were called to 5 Corners in the Irvington district to a report of a man fighting with two women.

Backpack With Sawed-Off Shotgun Dumped from Stolen Vehicle

Police said officers attempted to pull over a car with paper plates in the Cabrillo area but instead of pulling over, the driver fled onto northbound Interstate 880, but before getting onto the freeway, authorities said the front passenger threw out a backpack that had ammo and a sawed-off shotgun inside of it. The vehicle was later found at Deep Creek and Shylock but no suspects were found.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 15

Drunk Driver Hits High School Fence Post

A 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving after he hit a fence post and nearly ran over two people at Washington High School.

CHP Shoots Pair of Aggressive Pitbulls

California Highway Patrol officers shot two pitbulls who became aggressive when they tried to detain the canines on Highway 84, east of the toll plaza. One of the dogs died but another fled east into business park but officers later detained the canine and transported the pitbull to the Ohlone Vetinary Center.

Teen Threatens Brother After Family Dispute

A 17-year-old boy was detained after officers were called to Waterstone Apartments after it was reported that the teenager was threatening his brother and had locked out his mom and three sisters out of the apartment. The brother escaped the teen was eventually put on a psychiatric hold. Police said the dispute began after the teen’s mother refused to buy him a hookah pipe.

Police Called After Report of Bar Fight

Officers responded to Mojo’s bar in Centerville after it was reported that a fight had broken out around 11:40 p.m. and chairs were being thrown. Police responded and the “situation immediately de-escalated.”

Officers Help Treat 2-Year-Old Girl Who Suffered Seizure

Police officers responded to Hilo Street and helped treat a 2-year-old girl who had stopped breathing after having had a febrile seizure. Officers helped the toddler start breathing again and the 2-year-old was transported to a local hospital for precautionary reasons. 

Shotgun Ammuntion Found in Roadway

Police were called after 100 live shotgun rounds were found in the street.

Two Strong-Arm Robberies in Ardenwood-Northgate Area

A robber snatched a purse from a woman’s arm as she was walking on the sidewalk near Ranch 99 , police said. The suspect was not located. Police also responded to a strong armed robbery in the Ardenwood area after a man reported that two males tried to take his cell phone and bicycle. The man gave officers a description and two minors matching a description were stopped in Union City and arrested on suspicion of robbery and possession of marijuana for sale.
