Crime Log: Windows Shattered at Thornton Junior High; Woman Threatened at Fremont Hub

Brief updates on crimes that occurred in Fremont from Sept. 17-23

The following is a summary of significant crime and incidents reported in Fremont between Sept. 10 and Sept. 17 as released by the Fremont Police Department.  

MONDAY, SEPT. 17

Man Arrested After Stolen Gift Cards in Backpack

A man was arrested on suspicion of possession of stolen property after a police officer found stolen gift cards inside of his backpack when authorities responded to a motel to serve the man, who is on probation, a warrant. Police later searched his home and found more stolen cards.

Man Threatens Woman, Points 'Gun' at Passers-by

Police responded to Fremont Boulevard and Paseo Padre Parkway after it was reported that a fight between a man and a woman had escalated into the man pressing the woman up against a fence. Several other reports came in that the suspect was pointing a handgun at cars. Police arrived and were not able to find the victim but did detain a 40-year-old man who was armed with a pellet gun.

Man Threatens Ex-Wife

A man was detained after police were called to a residential area between Fremont BART and Mission Boulevard to a report of the man yelling and banging on the door of his ex-wife’s home. The victim told authorities that the man claimed to have a gun and then attempted to enter the home by jumping into the backyard and going through the patio. Officers arrived and took the man into custody.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 18

Arrests Made in Connection to Identity Theft Ring

Two men were arrested after police officers who were serving a warrant at Motel 6 discovered that occupants were “running a credit card/stolen checks/identity theft ring.” One of the men was a 34-year-old Manteca man who was arrested on suspicion of receiving known stolen property, possession of bad checks, possession of a controlled substance and being under the influence of a controlled substance. A 22-year-old Union City man was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance.

Domestic Battery Suspect Arrested

A 23-year-old Fremont man was arrested after police were called to the area of Great Salt Lake Drive and Alvarado Boulevard when a domestic battery victim ran to board an AC Transit bus around 2 p.m. Police found the man jumping off a roof and running, resulting in a foot chase involving K-9 Dax. The man surrendered and was booked into jail on suspicion of felony domestic battery.

Motorcyclist Injured in Traffic Accident

A motorcyclist is in critical condition after a woman drove into his path Tuesday afternoon, police said. According to Fremont police, the man was traveling northbound on Paseo Padre Parkway when the woman driving a Honda minivan drove through an intersection from Concho Drive onto Paseo Padre Parkway, placing her in the 20-year-old motorcyclist’s path. Responding officers found the motorcyclist unresponsive and authorities said he sustained severe injuries. He was brought to San Jose Regional Medical Center and admitted in critical condition.

A man was arrested after police say he tried to kidnap three young men in Fremont then led police on a car chase into Union City. Police said just after 10:05 p.m. Tuesday, two men flagged down police officers to report that a man was yelling at them and another man to get into the pick-up truck. Police spotted the man and drove off eastbound on Walnut Avenue onto Mission Boulevard until officers were forced to crash into him on Decoto Road near Third Street in Union City to detain him. Still, the man resisted and fled on foot, resulting in officers tasing the man and deploying a K-9, but the man was not fazed. He was eventually detained and arrested on several charges. THURSDAY, SEPT. 20

Motel Guests Dump Meth Out of Window

Police were called to La Quinta Inn to a report of a probationer who was staying at the hotel behaving suspiciously. Authorities said the man refused to let police officers inside but once authorities did enter, they learned that the room’s guests had thrown more than an ounce of meth out of the window and that stolen property was also found in the room.

Man Vandalizes Signs

A 20-year-old man was arrested after reports that he was damaging signs with a metal rod. He was arrested after a he tried to briefly escape from officers.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 21

Trio Arrested After Ringing Several Doorbells

Two women and a teenaged boy were arrested on suspicion of possession of burglary tools and prowling after police were called to the area of Caliente Way after a person was seen ringing several doorbells. Authorities said the three were found to be in possession of stolen property from a burglary in Newark.

Four Residential Burglaries Reported

Three homes and one apartment were reported burglarized at the following locations: 5000 block of Yellowstone Park, 41000 block of Malcolmson Avenue and 36000 block of Nichols Avenue and the 39900 block of Stevenson Boulevard.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 22

Woman Threatened at Fremont Hub

A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of making criminal threats after a woman reported that the man threatened to kill her while she was walking in front of Ross Dress for Less at the Fremont Hub.

Windows Shattered at Thornton Junior High

Police were called to Thornton Junior High and found that five of its windows had been broken. Authorities said the total damage is estimated to be $500.

Fight Reported at Ardenwood Jack in the Box

Police responded to Jack in the Box at Ardenwood after it was reported that 15-20 people were fighting. By the time officers arrived, those involved had fled and police said the victims were not cooperative.

SUNDAY, SEPT. 23

Drunk Woman, Man Found Passed Out Behind Driving Wheel

A woman and a man were found slumped over the driving wheel of their vehicles in two separate incidents. Both were arrested on suspicion of drunken driving.

Minors Arrested For Trespassing, Prowling

Two minors were arrested after a police officer patrolling a residential area that had been experiencing burglaries spotted three males running and jumping fences. The duo was arrested on suspicion of trespassing, prowling and resisting arrest.

Drunk Man Detained at BART station

A man was arrested on suspicion of public drunkenness after he was found on the platform at the Fremont BART station and was too drunk to care for himself.

Bicycle Stolen From Fremont BART station

A 21-speed Hybrid Schwinn bicycle was reported stolen from the Fremont BART’s west bicycle rack between the hours of 11:30 a.m. Saturday and midnight on Sunday. Authorities said the cable and combination lock that had secured the bicycle were also taken.
