Dog Euthanized After Found Injured, Neglected

A dog in Fremont had to be euthanized after police found it neglected and abused on Saturday night, a police spokeswoman said.

Police responded to a call at 7:45 p.m. about a dog in distress, audibly crying, on Baldwin Court, Officer Geneva Bosques said.

The dog was found in the backyard of a home, trapped underneath a ladder and panel of wood, Bosques said.

Police said the dog was rescued from underneath the ladder and wood panel, but remained on its side, suffering from a severe leg wound.

The dog was transported to a veterinarian's office where, upon the owner's approval, it was humanely euthanized, Bosques said.

No arrests have been made on the neglect or abuse of the dog, and the investigation is ongoing. The case has been forwarded to Fremont's animal services, Bosques said.
