Earthquake Retrofit: $3,000 Grants Available For Fremont Homeowners
Some Fremont zip codes are eligible for the grants. Check to see if you qualify for the lottery, which is only open for one month.
Fremont, CA — Registration is underway for a lottery that will award $3,000 grants to Fremont homeowners toward the cost of an Earthquake Brace + Bolt Retrofit.
"In a brace + bolt retrofit, the foundation is bolted to the frame of the house, and if there is a crawl space (or cripple wall), it is braced with plywood or OSB sheathing," according to the California Residential Mitigation Program website. "This helps prevent the house from sliding or toppling off its foundation during an earthquake."
Registration for the grant program is only open for 30 days each year. When open, you can complete the registration form online or request a paper registration form. You will be asked questions about your house, and your answers will determine if your home qualifies for an EBB retrofit grant.
Qualifications include:
- You own and live in the house you would like to retrofit.
- You live in one of the EBB program areas, which are designated by ZIP Code.
- Your house was built before 1980.
- Your house has a raised foundation, or crawl space under your house.
