Money donated to the fund will be used for youth scholarships.

(Fremont Police Dept.)

FREMONT, CA — By all accounts, Fred Bobbitt loved the Fremont Police Department and he loved children. The police department's obituary includes, "Freddie was probably most proud of founding the 'Building Bridges Program' which allowed more than 9,000 6th graders of Fremont Unified School District to build relationships with Fremont Police employees."

After the police captain died last month, the Fremont Police Association created the Fred Bobbitt Memorial Fund in his honor. It will help Fremont’s youth by providing scholarships and other educational benefits in Capt. Bobbitt's honor. Donations to the Fred Bobbitt Memorial Fund can be made online.

Bobbitt grew up in Fremont, attended Fremont schools and served the Fremont Police Department for over 30 years. A memorial service scheduled for Saturday is open to the public.
