Fremont City Council Approves State Homekey Application
Fremont will now apply for a $35 million Homekey grant to convert the Motel 6 on Research Avenue to permanent supportive affordable housing.
FREMONT, CA — Fremont City Council voted unanimously for the City to apply for the third round of funding available through the State’s Homekey Program during its Tuesday, May 9 meeting.
Thanks to the approval, the city will now be applying for a $35 million Homekey grant to convert the Motel 6 at 46101 Research Avenue in Fremont to 156 units of permanent supportive affordable housing.
City staff plans to submit the Homekey application to the State by Tuesday, May 16 and expects to receive funding notification from the State by July 2023. If funding is awarded, the goal will be to complete the project by spring 2024.
