Fremont PD Kicks Off Anti-Speeding Campaign
Fremont began a citywide anti-speeding campaign this week, which is scheduled to end through the end of July.
FREMONT, CA — The Fremont Police Department has teamed up with federal transportation officials for the "Speeding Catches Up With You" campaign, which will run through the end of the month.
On Monday, police officials noted dramatic increases in speed-related fatal crashes in recent years and a local uptick in "risk-taking and careless driving."
"No matter how safe of a driver you think you may be speeding is dangerous," the department wrote. "Speed limits aren't a suggestion, they are the law. Obeying these posted speed limits keep drivers and passenger safe."

Police noted that young people and motorcyclists represent the largest demographic involved in crashes resulting from speeding. Alcohol use and weather conditions can also increase risks. Pointing to data from 2020, the department said 37 percent of drivers involved in deadly crashes were both speeding and driving under the influence.
"The effects of speeding are deadly," said Lt. Ramin Mahboobi. "Drivers should be especially aware of this campaign and their speed."
