• Cities can't punish outreach workers for helping homeless Californians under new law (calmatters.org) — Fremont is cited as an example of how far cities went in trying to criminalize support for homeless encampments, inspiring a new California law taking effect Jan. 1. The measure now bars cities from penalizing outreach workers who provide food, medical care, legal help, or basic survival supplies to unhoused people, even in illegal encampments. It comes amid rising enforcement against homeless residents statewide.
   

• Two Bay Area Cities Are The Happiest In The United States According To A New Study (secretsanfrancisco.com) — Fremont just earned the top spot as the happiest city in the United States, according to a new ranking of more than 180 large cities. The study highlights Fremont’s high household incomes, low depression and divorce rates, and strong sports participation, with San Jose and San Francisco also placing in the top 10.
