There are probably a lot of journalists in the world who would agree with Chris Monahan who wrote, “My first job was delivering the Home News newspaper in Jersey and I don't recall making ANYTHING!”
Phil Strong had better luck. He wrote on Facebook, “Cattlemans Newark in 1976. $2.00 an hour as a dishwasher. Went to $2.50 in Oct. As a busboy, I made $200.00 a week just in tips.”

In 1955 the Federal minimum wage was $.75 an hour and has increased over the years to today’s rate of $7.25 an hour. Some states have a minimum wage different from the federal rate.
