Fremont Road And Parking Lot Closures Slated For Weekend Festival

Several streets and a couple of parking lots in downtown Fremont will be closed over the weekend to accommodate a two-day cultural festival.

FREMONT, CA — The Fremont community and visitors should expect downtown road and parking lot closures this weekend for the annual Festival of India Mela & Parade, the Fremont Police Department announced Wednesday.

The festival will take place Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Walnut Avenue between Paseo Padre Parkway and Liberty Street will be closed from Saturday at 6 a.m. to Sunday at 11:59 p.m.

These additional road closures will take place on Sunday from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the parade:

  • Paseo Padre Parkway between Mowry Avenue and Stevenson Boulevard
  • Liberty Street between Capitol Avenue and Beacon Avenue
  • Capitol Avenue between State Street and Paseo Padre Parkway
  • Kearny Street between Stevenson Boulevard and Liberty Avenue
  • Walnut Avenue between Paseo Padre Parkway and Liberty Street

The City Hall parking lot and the City of Fremont Development Services Center parking lot will also be closed on Sunday from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the parade.

The Festival of India Mela & Parade will take place at 39439 Paseo Padre Parkway in the Fremont Hall of Justice parking lot and surrounding areas in downtown Fremont. The Fremont Police Department encourages attendees to plan ahead and arrange for safe transportation to and from the event.

Backpacks and large bags are discouraged at the event and may be subject to search, police said. Additionally, drones (UAVs) are not permitted to fly over the event area.
