Fremont Teen Karen Chen Places 10th In Olympics Single Skating
The 18-year-old Fremont native stumbled during her performance.

FREMONT, CA -- Fremont teen Karen Chen placed 10th Tuesday evening in the ladies' single skating competition at the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. The winning medal went to Russia skater Alina Zagitova.
The first-time Olympian known for choreographing some of her own performances scored 65.90 overall, after stumbling during her first jump.
Chen, 18, rose to the national stage last year when she won the gold medal at the National Championship. Mentored by fellow Olympian, Kristi Yamaguchi, Chen started skating at just 4 years old.

The night was a disappointment for the USA Team with other American athletes, Mirai Nagasu scoring 66.93 and Bradie Tennell scoring 64.01, placing them in ninth and eleventh place, respectively.
In second place was Evgenia Medvedeva from Russia with a score of 81.61 and Kaetlyn Osmond of Canada, scoring 78.87.
