FREMONT, CA — The Walmart store on Albrae Street in Fremont will permanently close on May 24, the company announced. The store has been deemed underperforming.

The Walmart on Osgood Road will remain open, as will stores in Union City and Milpitas.

The 156 associates at the Albrae store are being offered transfers to other stores.

"We are grateful to the customers who have given us the privilege of serving them at our Walmart store at 40580 Albrae St. Fremont, CA," said Kelsey Bohl, Director of Corporate Communications at Walmart. "We look forward to continuing to serve them at one of our 10 other Walmart stores in the Bay Area, including a store within 3 miles from this location, on Walmart.com and through delivery to their home or business."

More than 300 Walmart stores and Sam’s Clubs remain in California.

Bohl pointed out that Walmart contributed almost $66 million in cash and in-kind donations to local and California non-profits in fiscal year 2023.
