Jack in the Box Robber to Receive 9 Years in Prison

A 22-year-old Antioch man could receive nine years in prison for robbing Jack in the Box restaurants in Fremont and San Leandro in January.

Deshawn Ferguson pleaded no contest in court to armed robbery charges on Monday, according to the Fremont Police Department.

Authorities say that Fuerguson entered the Jack in the Box located at 5533 Stevenson Blvd. in Fremont at 8:35 a.m. on Jan. 21, 2012, pointed a gun at a cashier’s head and told her to move. Ferguson then jumped over the counter, took the cash tray from the register and fled on food.

Police say Ferguson committed a similar armed robbery in San Leandro that same afternoon. At about 12:30 p.m., Ferguson entered a Jack in the Box at 15025 Hesperian Blvd. in San Leandro, pointed a gun at a cashier, hopped the counter, took the cash tray and ran.

San Leandro police responded to the scene immediately and caught Ferguson while he tried to jump a fence to a residential home. He was found in possession of a handgun.

Through a joint investigation by the Fremont and San Leandro police departments, Ferguson was also identified as a suspect in a Jan. 16 shooting and robbery in Antioch, police said.

Ferguson was charged Jan. 24 with multiple counts of robbery and weapons charges at the Hayward Hall of Justice. He pleaded no contest to one count of armed robbery on Aug. 27, Fremont police said.

Ferguson was also issued a warrant for the Antioch shooting, police said.

He is scheduled to be sentenced at 8:45 a.m. on Sept. 25 at Dept. 513 at the Hayward Hall of Justice, according to online court records.
