Los Angeles and other California cities have closed fire stations and reduced personnel because of cuts, but Fremont is expanding.

FREMONT, CA — Within days of the firestorms starting in Los Angeles last week, questions were raised about the city's decision to shutter fire stations in an effort to reduce costs.

Oakland is also contemplating closing fire stations, something that does not sit well in for residents who remember the 1991 Tunnel Fire — also known as the Oakland Hills Firestorm —that killed 25 people and destroyed 2,900 structures.

If you are wondering where Fremont stands — a Grand Opening Ceremony is planned for Tuesday to commemorate the addition of one fire truck and nine firefighters to the Fremont Fire Department.
