More Tech Layoffs Hit Bay Area Workers
State records show new layoffs are ahead for workers in three Bay Area cities, joining thousands announced earlier in the year.

FREMONT, CA — Bay Area tech companies are slashing hundreds more jobs in the coming weeks, bringing that sector close to 15,000 layoffs announced across the region this year.
According to WARN notices filed with the state, Coherent will cut nearly 200 positions at a Fremont office next month. Software developer Unity Technologies will lay off 50 workers in San Francisco, and electronics manufacturer Flex will reduce its Milpitas staff by 31.
As the East Bay Times reports, tech firms have jettisoned more than 25,000 Bay Area jobs since the start of last year, with the highest surge arriving over the first five months of this year.

According to Fortune, San Francisco-based Reddit plans to cull 5 percent of its workforce, impacting 90 full-time roles, while cutting its new hiring goals from 300 to 100. In a memo obtained by Bloomberg News, the social media company's CEO called the move part of a restructuring plan to boost revenue, which includes a controversial decision to significantly increase prices for third-party app developers.
A nationwide analysis of tech layoffs by TechCrunch shows nearly 170,000 workers have been impacted by cuts since the start of the year, including tens of thousands at Meta, Amazon and Microsoft.
