New Bookstore Opens at NewPark Mall

While bookstores may be wobbling from tough online and digital competition, they’re not going out without a fight. Enter BookSmart Books and Toys — the newest addition to NewPark Mall and one of the few book retailers in the Tri-City area.

According to the store’s Facebook page, BookSmart is now open on the lower level of the mall, next to Cinnabon.   

This is the second location for the independent bookstore, which has a flagship store in Morgan Hill.   

The store fashions itself as a family-oriented, neighborhood bookstore with a variety of offerings, including books, educational toys, greeting cards, magazines and more.   

Helmed by husband-and-wife team Brad Jones and Cinda Meister, BookSmart is devoted to supporting the community.  

“We believe that education is the most fundamental building block of the future,” the owners wrote on the store’s website. “We work with local school districts and the home schooling and private school markets in order to source books and classroom products for schools around the Bay Area.”   

BookSmart is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., according to their Facebook page.
