Pedestrian Killed By Hit-And-Run Driver ID'd
The victim, who was killed on Fremont Boulevard, was a father of 3 with another child on the way. His wife also recently lost her father.
FREMONT, CA — A pedestrian who was struck and killed in Fremont earlier this month by a suspected drunk driver was identified by the Alameda County Coroner's Bureau as Taniela Finau Hafoka, a 26-year-old Oakland resident.
A GoFundMe campaign organized to help cover funeral expenses and support his three children identified him as Taniela Finau Hafoka Malekamu.
Hafoka was struck in the 45000 block of Fremont Boulevard at about 11:30 p.m. on May 3. He was pronounced dead at the scene after unsuccessful medical aid by Fremont police officers and Fremont Fire Department medics.

The driver, 58-year-old Sunnyvale resident Hung Vuu, crashed into a traffic signal pole about a quarter-mile away and suffered minor injuries. He was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage causing injury.
If was the first traffic-related fatality in Fremont in 2024, according to police.
