Police Still Looking for Driver in Hit-and-Run on Fremont Boulevard

By Bay City News

A bicyclist struck by a hit-and-run driver in Fremont in August remains in the hospital with major head injuries, and police said today they are still hoping someone will come forward with information on the driver who put him there.

The bicyclist, a 56-year-old man, was struck by a black or dark-colored Toyota Camry at 5:42 a.m. on Aug. 8 while he was riding south in the bike lane on Fremont Boulevard south of Old Warm Springs Boulevard, according to police.

He suffered injuries including major head trauma, broken ribs and several abrasions and is still in the hospital, according to police. The Camry, a four-door model dated between 1992 and 1996, was last seen traveling south on Fremont Boulevard and has not yet been located.

Police said the vehicle probably has damage to the right front bumper area. On Aug. 22 investigators posted a digital sign board at the location of the accident between 4:30 and 6:30 a.m., asking anyone with information to contact officers.

So far, no leads have been provided, police said. Anyone with information about the collision is asked to call for Traffic Officer A. Zambonin at (510) 790-6800 or leave a tip at Fremontpolice.org/tip.
