A suspicious package near Fremont City Hall prompted evacuations and briefly shut down nearby roads, police said.

The Alameda County Sheriff's Office bomb squad responded to the area near 3300 Capitol Ave. after the package was reported shortly after 1 p.m.

As of 1:30 p.m., police had determined the package was a duffel bag filled with clothes and was not dangerous.
