SWAT Team Places Fifth in Urban Shield Competition
The competition pitted 32 tactical teams throughout the nation against one another.

Fremont Police Department’s SWAT team out battled dozens of tactical teams last weekend as part of the 2012 Urban Shield competition.
The department’s SWAT team’s work resulted in a fifth place ranking out of more than 30 teams from throughout the nation, according to the Fremont Police Department Facebook page.
This year’s Urban Shield competition pitted 32 tactical teams against one another in a 48-hour exercise that featured 38 scenarios, according to a Newark Police Department statement.

Urban Shield is described as a “comprehensive, full-scale regional preparedness exercise” which assesses the region’s capabilities in planning, procedures, policies, organization, equipment and training to provide “prevention, protection, response and recovery in our high-threat, high-density urban area,” according to the Urban Shield website.
