Teen Hospitalized After Being Struck by Pick-Up Truck

Police say there are no charges pending on the driver.

A teenager was hospitalized after she was struck by a pick-up truck while trying to cross a major intersection in Fremont Monday afternoon, police said.

Fremont Police Spokeswoman Geneva Bosques said during a school break, the 17-year-old girl was hit just outside of a crosswalk at the intersection of Stevenson Boulevard and Blacow Avenue.

The 17-year-old and a friend went to the Quick Stop convenience store across from Kennedy High School during the break and crossed the street on a "red flashing hand signal," police said.

Police said the two made it onto the center median as a traffic light turned green and that the pair then tried to run toward the sidewalk before traffic crossed, but the injured teen was hit by the pick-up truck whose view was blocked, Bosques said.

Police said the driver did not see either teenager in the crosswalk.

The teen was transported to a local trauma center and sustained serious injuries but authorities said she is expected to recover. There are no charges pending on the driver, Bosques added.
