Two Arrested After Battering Police Officer, Resisting Arrest

A 21-year-old man was arrested and a juvenile girl placed on psychiatric hold after attacking police officers early Thursday morning.

A 21-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl were arrested early this morning after resisting arrest and attacking police officers, authorities said.

According to the Fremont Police Department, officers responded at about 1:15 a.m. to a disturbance in the are of Lundy Terrace involving three men and a female running in the street and yelling.

Responding officers located two men who matched the description given by the reporting party. When approached, the two men became uncooperative and “verbally challenged” the officers, said Fremont police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques.

One of the men, a 21-year-old from Willits, was carrying a BB gun replica semi-automatic firearm in his waistband. The suspect had removed the orange safety tip that is attached to replicas, which is a criminal violation, according to police

When asked if he had any weapons, the other man said “If I did, I’d pull it out on you,” according to Bosques.

Police then attempted to detain the suspect with the BB gun, who became aggressive and resisted arrest. He was placed in a wrap for his own safety. Once in the car, he started hitting his head on the window, Bosques said.

Officers had to re-wrap the suspect and took him out of the vehicle. That’s when the suspect elbowed an officer twice in the chest, Bosques said.

The suspect was eventually restrained and taken to Santa Rita Jail on a number of charges, including suspicion of battery on a police officer and resisting arrest.

The other man was not detained.

Meanwhile, a resident from a nearby home on Franciscan Court told officers that a family member who was out with men had just came home and started punching those in the house, according to police.

Relatives tried to restrain the 17-year-old girl but she broke free and ran to her room when officers arrived. When officers tried to come inside, she kicked them and tried to hit them, Bosques said.

The girl was eventually restrained and put on psychiatric hold. She was later arrested, given a notice to appear in court and released to her family. She was arrested on suspicion of resisting arrest and battery.
