FREMONT, CA — Police are advising community members to be aware of an upcoming road closure in Fremont Tuesday due to a Diwali celebration.

Diwali is known as the "Festival of Lights" and is considered India's most important holiday. It gets its name from the row of clay lamps people place outside their homes, which symbolize an inner light that protects from spiritual darkness, according to National Geographic.

Fremont's Gurdwara Sahib will be putting on a Diwali celebration Tuesday from 3 to 11 p.m. The event will take place along the 300 block of Gurdwara Road.

There will be road closures along that roadway between Grau Drive and Mission Boulevard, according to the Fremont Police Department. No left turns will be allowed from Gurdwara Road onto Mission Boulevard and vise versa, authorities said.

The Fremont Police Department also asked that people attending the event avoid parking in front of residential driveways.

"Parking will be enforced for this event and violators will be ticketed," the Fremont Police Department said in a statement online.

A shuttle will be made available to transport people between the event and a parking area at Seventh Street in Union City, police said.

"Please note the consumption or possession of alcohol, meat, or tobacco is not permitted at the site, and head scarves are required on Gurdwara premises," police said.
