FREMONT, CA — Five young teens ranging in age from 14 to 16 years old have been arrested on suspicion of possessing a stolen vehicle and evading a peace officer, according to the Fremont Police Department. In addition, one of the suspects, who is 15, has been charged with multiple felonies including possessing a gun and ammunition.

On Dec. 7, Fremont officers attempted to stop the stolen vehicle, the department reports, but it fled at a high rate of speed. While officers did not pursue the vehicle, a CHP Air Unit in the area followed the stolen vehicle into Milpitas, where it collided with the center median on East Calaveras Boulevard. Five juveniles fled from the vehicle, but were soon arrested and issued a notice to appear in court.

Officers found four phones left behind in the stolen vehicle. The police department obtained a search warrant to search the phones. "One phone contained several photographs of the fifteen-year-old juvenile arrestee holding a firearm with an extended magazine," police said in a release to the community. "Following this discovery, a search warrant was granted to search the residence of the fifteen-year-old juvenile."

That warrant was executed at 9:15 p.m. on Dec. 19. Fremont officers searched residence, in the area of Mowry Avenue and Mission Boulevard, with the assistance of a K-9 Officer and K-9 Nala. Nala is trained to detect bombs and gunshot residue.

"During the search, K-9 Nala alerted in the area of a washer and dryer, which ultimately led to officers locating an unserialized handgun and a thirty-round extended magazine, which contained twenty-seven live rounds of ammunition," police report. "The unserialized handgun and extended magazine were the same firearm featured in the photographs."
