California Firefighter's Wife Dies After Giving Birth To Twins

The Reeder family has a total of five children, and now they are without their mother.

FRESNO, CA -- A California firefighter is mourning Tuesday after losing the mother of his five children. Amanda Sawyer, the wife of Fresno firefighter Nick Reeder, died April 9 shortly after giving birth to their twin girls, according to a GoFundMe page created for the family.

"Pregnancy had gone well and Amanda arrived at the hospital carrying those precious bundles 37.5 weeks," the GoFundMe page said. "Everything was going smooth until not long after the girls were born, Amanda said she was not feeling well. Within the hour, they lost Amanda."

Loved ones created the fundraising campaign to help Reeder as he learns how to raise his five children without Sawyer by his side.

"This family's life is now turned upside down and will never be the same," the fundraising webpage said. "Nick is left to bare the pain of losing his wife at the same time feeling the joy of having beautiful healthy daughters."

The death comes just months after the couple married in November, according to a Sacramento Bee report.

The Sacramento Bee said the couple have five children and Sawyer cared for the children while Reeder worked.

"She decorated their home with firefighter memorabilia and drove by Fresno County/CalFire Station 85 on Nees Avenue just so she could show their children where Reeder worked. She often visited the station with the couples' three children: Caleb, 11, Anistyn, 6 and Layla, 3," the Bee reported.

Now, days after the devastating loss, Reeder and his family are mourning. Loved ones asked the public to help raise $37,000 to help the family.

"Please help us to give them a little support to make their life at least a little bit better."
