Memorial Day 2012: Events in Glendora

This Memorial Day, honor the men and woman who gave their lives in war.

Memorial Day is a federal holiday observed to honor and recognize the men and woman who served and died in war. The holiday was first observed to remember the Union soldiers who died in the American Civil War, but was later extended to all American soldiers who died in service.

Until noon, all American flags are to be flown at half-staff in memory of all fallen soldiers. After noon and for the rest of the day flags are to be raised to full-staff.

Many of the local area’s American Legion posts and auxiliaries will coordinate the annual Memorial Day service at Oakdale Memorial Park. This year’s host post is Baldwin Park Legion Post 241. The service will also include local representatives and government officials.

The Historic Fairmount Pioneer Cemetery

The 136th annual ceremony includes invited guests Congressman David Dreier, State Senator Bob Huff, Assemblyman Tim Donnelly and Azusa and Glendora City Council Members.

When: 11:30 a.m.

Where:  Fairmount Pioneer Cemetery, 301 Baldy Vista Ave. Glendora, Calif.
