Memorial Day DUI Arrests Yield ‘Steady’ Results

After conducting sobriety checkpoints and special DUI saturation patrols throughout the county, the Avoid the 100 DUI Campaign arrested nearly 600 motorists for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol during the

Officers representing 100 county law enforcement agencies arrested 590 individuals during the four-day campaign from Friday, May 25 through Monday, May 28. According to a press statement, this number is provisional with several other agencies yet to report.

There were 52 patrols deployed and 12 sobriety checkpoints conducted during the campaign, including checkpoints inand .

In 2011, 593 DUI arrests occurred during the same holiday weekend.

Law enforcement officials will conduct more Avoid anti-DUI efforts throughout the county and region during the July 4 holiday period and the 18-day summer campaign in August ending Labor Day weekend.

Police, Sheriff and the CHP encourage all motorists to watch and report impaired drivers during the summer season by calling 911.

Funding for Avoid the 100 DUI Campaign was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
