Half Moon Bay Man Arrested After Brutal Attack In El Granada

Investigators allege the suspect attacked a man with a weapon Wednesday night, causing serious injuries to his face and head.

EL GRANADA, CA — A Half Moon Bay man is accused of attempted homicide after Peninsula authorities allege he attacked and seriously injured a man Wednesday night in El Granada.

According to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office, deputies with the Coastside Patrol Bureau arrived at Coronado Street and Obispo Road around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday after witnesses reported a badly injured man running through traffic.

Deputies found the 37-year-old victim with serious facial and head injuries and began providing medical aid, officials said. The man told deputies he had been assaulted, and medics rushed him to a local hospital for treatment.

The sheriff's office said witnesses described a possible suspect seen running north from the area, and deputies set up a perimeter. Deputies soon located a man matching the description, who authorities identified Thursday as Josef A. Holloway, 39, of Half Moon Bay.

According to investigators, Holloway was carrying a weapon believed to be linked to the attack, along with drugs and drug paraphernalia. He was booked into jail on suspicion of attempted murder and drug-related offenses.

According to jail records, Holloway remains in custody at the Maguire Correctional Facility without bail. He was scheduled for a court appearance Friday afternoon.
