The same round of 2025 audits uncovered oil leaks, missing bolts, broken gauges, and other maintenance issues at substations across the Bay Area, shortly before major fires caused widespread outages in San Francisco and Saratoga.

• San Mateo County hoops roundup • Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026 (smdailyjournal.com) — Half Moon Bay High’s boys and girls basketball teams both opened PAL Bay Division play with convincing wins, giving local fans plenty to cheer about. The boys cruised past Sequoia behind Gio Garduno-Martin’s hot shooting, while the girls rolled over Mills with a dominant performance from center Zoey Lemoge. Other Peninsula teams also kicked off league action with tight finishes and big scoring nights.
