Man Caught On Camera Threatening Victim With Gun At SMC Gym: Police

Officers arrested a 38-year-old man for assault with a firearm after he pulled the gun during a confrontation, police said.

REDWOOD CITY, CA – Officers arrested a 38-year-old man Wednesday for assault with a firearm after they saw video footage of him pulling a gun out and threatening someone during a confrontation in December.

At around 2:49 a.m. on Dec. 15, Redwood City Police Department officers said they responded to Planet Fitness on the 200 block of Walnut Street after receiving a report of a disturbance between two patrons.

At some point both patrons exited the business and the suspect, later identified as Louie Yu, 38, was caught on camera pulling out a firearm and pointing it at the victim in a threatening manner, police said.

The victim was able to retreat back into the business and the suspect fled the scene, police said.

Investigators said they identified Yu as the suspect. Detectives executed a search warrant for Yu, his vehicle and storage locker.

At around 9:05 p.m. on Wednesday, detectives said they found Yu in his car in the city of San Bruno. Police said they arrested Yu and found a loaded firearm on him.

During their search, officers said they also found five firearms, two imitation firearms, numerous high capacity magazines and over 1500 rounds of ammunition.

Yu was booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility for assault with a firearm.
