• High school girls basketball rankings, Jan. 13, 2025: Bay Area News Group Top 20 (fresnobee.com) — Half Moon Bay High’s girls basketball team holds steady at No. 19 in the Bay Area rankings with a 9-3 record after a solid win over Mills. The Cougars next host Hillsdale on Tuesday at 6 p.m., part of a competitive regional Top 20 that includes powerhouse programs from across the Bay Area.
   

• Bay Area hosts one of world's largest Northern Elephant Seal mainland-breeding colony (ktvu.com) — If you’re in Half Moon Bay, one of the world’s biggest mainland elephant seal breeding colonies is just 25 miles south at Año Nuevo State Park, and peak season runs through late March. More than 1,000 seals are already on the beaches, and visitors need reservations for guided walks that limit disturbance while offering close-up views of battles, births, and pups learning to survive.
