Here are the top 3 stories in Healdsburg today:

  1. Yet another wine tasting room is set to open in Healdsburg next summer, according to the Wine Business trade mag. And just like the Marine Layer tasting room on the plaza and the just-opened Maison Healdsburg wine bar near the roundabout, the new Wayfarer Vineyard tasting room on Grove Street will focus on serving mainly coastal wines. From the report: "Cleo Pahlmeyer, proprietor of Wayfarer Vineyard, located in the Fort Ross-Seaview AVA, will open a winery and tasting room in Healdsburg, Calif. in July 2024. Located on Grove Street, the building will be renovated to house Wayfarer’s winemaking and hospitality for its estate-grown Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs. 'We are thrilled to have a new home for our wine production that offers an authentic experience of our wines,' said Pahlmeyer, proprietor of Wayfarer Vineyard. 'This acquisition allows us to further refine our winemaking, connect in a meaningful way with our clients, and serves as an important step forward towards the future of Wayfarer.' Cleo Pahlmeyer started Wayfarer more than a decade ago, following her father Jayson Pahlmeyer’s initial vision for the vineyard in 1998. Nestled beyond a ridgeline towering 1,200 feet above the Pacific Ocean, Wayfarer Vineyard is an oasis in a remote landscape of redwood forests and winding mountain roads." Wayfarer hasn't announced the exact address of their new tasting room on Grove yet. Interesting to see that street getting built out as another tourist thoroughfare! (WineBusiness.com)
  2. Meanwhile, on the plaza, Shop Local Healdsburg just posted a sneak peak of the steakhouse that billionaire Bill Foley is building as a tribute to his great great uncle, a wild Texas Ranger named Charles Goodnight. The restaurant is called Goodnight's Healdsburg, and it's scheduled to open sometime this summer. Right now they've got a big "NOW HIRING ALL POSITIONS" sign on their front window. They've also been teasing some food and interior pics from the restaurant on their Instagram over the past week. Here's some more info from the Goodnight's website: "Located in the heart of historic Healdsburg Plaza, Goodnight’s Prime Steak + Spirits is a local pioneer in a new frontier of classic Western-styling steakhouse dining experiences. With a robust selection of bourbons and an expansive wine list, our restaurant delivers an adventurous cocktail program. And don’t forget about our unforgettable options of the finest chops in the area. Like our namesake, trailblazing Texas Ranger Charles Goodnight, a meal with friends is unflappable and one of a kind. ... A cowboy-entrepreneur, Goodnight founded the first Texas Panhandle ranch, JA Ranch and was instrumental to cattle drives in Texas. His contribution to the culinary world was the invention of the chuckwagon, a portable covered field kitchen to feed ranchers and rustlers along the cattle trails, one of which was named after him. You could consider Goodnight the founder of the first food truck!" (Shop Local Healdsburg via Instagram & Goodnight's Healdsburg via Instagram & GoodnightsRestaurant.com)

  3. Shop Local also stopped by the tentative location of Healdsburg Bubble Bar, a "champagne lounge" proposed for the little standalone building behind Valette on North Street. Healdsburg resident Sarah Quider, who separately works as a higher-up for Foley Family Wines, is the woman behind the dream. She says she thinks "it would be a great addition to the town of Healdsburg to have a place where people can go and celebrate their birthday or their wedding or their anniversary or their new job — whatever they want to celebrate — with a glass of sparkling wine." City officials actually held a public hearing last night for Sarah's proposal; I didn't attend so I'm not sure what happened, but video of the meeting should be posted soon on the city's website. Here's the scoop from Shop Local: "This space was the former offices for LIOCO Wines, and is next door neighbors with Valette and SingleThread (across the street). If approved, this champagne bar will open 6 days a week, from 11am - 6pm — and will hopefully forge a new career path for Quider, who’ll be its new sole proprietor. While Quider currently works as the VP of winemaking at Foley Family Wines, she’s been transparent about her champagne dreams and career goals with Foley Wines. Quider shared with us this afternoon that she’s nervous, excited and hopeful that the public hearing will go well 🍀🤞🏼 Unlike any other champagne bar, directly attached to the right of it, is a recently updated Airbnb cottage that’s just been approved by the city. Built in 1906, this Airbnb is a 2 bedroom; 1 bath, with a kitchenette, that’s also owned by Quider." (Shop Local Healdsburg via Instagram & City of Healdsburg)

Healdsburg pics of the day, Molti Amici edition:

The team behind Molti Amici, the Italian restaurant that just replaced Campo Fina on Healdsburg Avenue, just shared these pics of the renovated space. When the restaurant opened a couple of weeks ago, owner and founder Jonny Barr wrote in an email to customers: "We can’t wait to share our restaurant with you! Molti Amici will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 5:30 pm until 9:00 pm. We plan to add lunch service a few weeks following our grand opening. Reservations are recommended, but walk-in guests are always welcome. You can make reservations at MoltiAmici.com. When you enter, you will find a new, light, and airy vibe and a menu that combines the vibrant spirit of California with the rich culinary heritage of Italy. Molti Amici, which loosely translates to 'many friends' in Italian, is a gathering spot where friends and family come together to share good food, laughter, and a game of bocce ball on the back patio." From my notebook:

  • There was a small but scary "timber fire" yesterday to our northwest, in the woods along Highway 128 outside Cloverdale. Fire officials called it the Hog Fire because it broke out near Hogwarts Way. They were able to contain it within two to three hours, while it was still under 5 acres, according to Cal Fire. The agency uploaded some pretty cool footage of the firefight — during which they reportedly employed a whopping six air tankers and helicopters. (Healdsburg Patch & CAL FIRE via Facebook & CAL FIRE via Facebook)
  • As you can see on the calendar, "Gay Wine Weekend" kicks off this Friday in town. This annual summer wine fest for the LGBTQ+ community is normally held in Sonoma Valley, but it's moving north to Healdsburg this year. (Out in the Vineyard)
  • And the weekend after, from July 19-23, the Healdsburg edition of the "Songwriters in Paradise" festival is back for a second year. From the Press Democrat: "Guests may not know the faces, they may not recognize the names, but they will certainly know the songs. That is the promise of Nashville-based singer songwriter Patrick Davis, who some 10 years ago started the Songwriters in Paradise series, a multi-night event that next week will bring 14 songwriters and performers to Healdsburg wineries, where they are scheduled to perform, gab and laugh a little, and perform a little more."
