SONOMA COUNTY, CA— As the Wohler Road Bridge seismic retrofit project enters its second and final year of construction, the bridge over the Russian River will close to traffic for over 6 months, it was announced this week.

Closure of the bridge near Healdsburg starts April 1 and ends Oct. 15, county officials said. As the critical safety upgrade is completed, work will include replacing steel elements on the 103-year-old bridge, deck demolition and replacement, and pier footing retrofit.

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors awarded an $18 million construction contract in February 2024 to Ghilotti Construction Company, Inc. for the seismic retrofit of the historic bridge.
