AT&T Cell Phone Service Towers Out in Area

Using an AT&T-serviced iPhone to call a Verizon-serviced Blackberry worked Saturday night, but a company statement says some cell towers in the area are not working.

AT&T has announced that it's working to resolve problems local customers are having with placing calls on their cell phones.

The company reported Saturday that nearly 1,000 of its cell towers are down in the Los Angeles area.

Hermosa Beach Patch tested its AT&T service Saturday night, using an iPhone to call a Verizon-serviced Blackberry, and the call went through.

But other AT&T users in the area have reported problems. Some AT&T users in the South Bay reacted on Twitter:

  • "Our AT&T service has been up and down like a roller coaster today." — tweeted @KellySims of Manhattan Beach.
  • "My peeps say AT&T is down in LA, but working fine for me." — tweeted @hermosawave of Hermosa Beach.
  • "AT&T service outage in los angeles! You can't make calls! Wait, that isn't any different than normal AT&T service!" — tweeted @cardfek of Long Beach.
